How do I get a grant for soybean research?

Applying for, and meeting the requirements of, a grant from the Maryland Soybean Board is easy. Just be aware of the following steps and deadlines:

  1. Submit a pre-proposal form by Oct. 15. This one-page form requires basic information. Do not attach additional pages. This form is used by our research committee to evaluate your research concept and determine if they desire a full proposal from you.
  2. Researchers will receive a letter from the Maryland Soybean Board on or shortly after November 1, inviting them to submit a full proposal.
  3. Dec. 15 - Research proposals are due. Suggested forms are available from the office at (410) 742-9500, or you may download PDF files here. HINT: Look for a regional angle to the research. The Mid-Atlantic states have set aside additional funds for regional research. Also check the research pages of this web site for previously funded research in Maryland.
  4. February - look for mail from the Maryland Soybean Board concerning the grants meeting, usually held late in the month. HINT: Your attendance can help secure a grant, particularly if the research involves high-tech work.
  5. March - You will be notified by mail if you have received funding. Please take a moment to complete the form which provides a brief explanation of the study in lay terms. This will help us publicize the work.
  6. October - Write a brief abstract in lay terms on the results of your project and mail to the Maryland Soybean Board, P.O. Box 319, Salisbury, MD 21803. This information will be used for producer communications.
  7. November/December - Complete a full, final written report of the project results and mail to the Maryland Soybean Board, P.O. Box 319, Salisbury, MD 21803. HINT: Researchers who have not returned final reports will be eligible to compete for new grants but will not receive the funds until the final report has been received.
  8. If this research will be used in publications, please acknowledge checkoff funding - stickers with the checkoff logo are available to use in or on your publications by calling the soybean office at (410) 742-9500. Please send a courtesy copy of all such publications to the above address.
